Making Your Home Sing Monday...

There is an old joke where the husband asks the wife, "What do you do all day?" and the next day he comes home from work and the baby is in the front yard playing with the hose, the toddler is in front of the television, the house is a wreck, food is everywhere and the wife is in their bedroom reading a book and eating candy, ignoring everything going on around her. He comes in and says, "What is going on?" She looks and him and replies, "Remember when you asked me what I do all day?" He says, "Yes." She smiles and says, "I didn't do any of it today." Do you remember that joke?

Well, we're living that little story here at the Nagle5 household and not because I was trying to make a point about how busy I am. Superman knows full well what goes into keeping a house and family running smoothly (he was a quasi- stay-at-home dad years and years ago) and he appreciates all I do. Unfortunately, I've been sick since Thursday and am just now feeling human again. Before that Valiant was sick for two days with something completely different. Poor Superman has had to hold down the fort because I finally gave in and headed for bed on Friday evening haven't done much since. I have no idea where we stand on laundry or groceries or anything else. I did do dishes whenever I came downstairs, but the rest of the house was more than I was willing/able to deal with. I've lost mental track of our calendar for the next few weeks, so I'm going to have to look things up again. (Oh, I did make us miss Valiant's doctor's appointment on Friday morning...I was still asleep at the appt time and had completely forgotten it.) I know I gave the kids their spelling tests on Friday, but I can't remember what we did about Spanish...hmmm....I'm sure I had plans for Thursday and Friday of last week because Superman actually took those days off to be with us. Well, he was with us, but I'm not certain how restful it was for him. I know I had plans for the weekend, but, in truth, I got nothing much done. I canceled Game Night and I felt sad for doing it.

My response to all those failures and unmet goals? Oh, well.

The truth is this: This is life. Some weeks are amazing and some are not so good and we need to roll with it all. I think we often forget that life is not perfect, nor is it supposed to be. If we're not careful, we set ourselves up for failure because we're attempting to match impossible standards. We're all just trying to do the best we can with the tools we've been given and it doesn't always turn out the way we anticipated. We just keep plugging away.

This week, the Nagles will be remembering that life is not a race, life is not a contest, life is to be lived. There are no winners and losers...if the rugs don't get vacuumed one day, they can get vacuumed another day. If the lawn doesn't get mowed one day, the grass will be there the next day. Sometimes I think we are forced to slow down so we remember this idea. All of the things you need to do will still be there, so don't fret. It's all good.

Our house will be singing a merry little tune (I don't know which one yet...it hasn't come to me--oh, how about the theme song from Chariots of Fire?) and stuff will get done. "What will get done?", you ask. Well, I'm really not certain. I know it is MAC week and I know I made an appt for the dogs to go to the groomer before we head to the MAC, but other than that, I can't remember. It is okay, I'll figure it all out. After all, it will all still be there for me.

I'm glad you're feeling better Erin! The world usually stops when Mommy isn't feeling well.

I, too, think that mom gets feeling under the weather when things need to slow down a bit. It all gets done eventually. Glad to hear you are feeling better.

That's what MTSU time is for. YOu aren't behind, the clock just changed. LOL
Hope you are feeling better. Most things we do weekly can be done just as easily the next week. And rarely take any more time than if we'd done them weekly.
Me, I am enjoying a week off and trying to get motivated to use it. LOL

When mom gets sick, then everything seems to get put on hold. Then, everything is doubled!! LOL!!

Oh..and I wanted to clarify on my post that (for me) yelling is a form of laziness because instead of yelling, I can get up from where I am to speak in a normal tone. I hope that makes sense. :)

Glad to know you're feeling better. I had plans of getting more done today but that hasn't happened. Now we need to go to the grocery store. Oh well, that's life. Thanks for the reminder that sometimes it doesn't run smooth and that's ok.

Have a great week my friend!
Hope you get everything done!

I am so glad you're starting to feel some of your old self again!!!

You are right. We just have to let go what we can when we're sick. Some things just really don't matter and all we'll do is stress ourselves out. Or can make ourselves worse.

Thank you for joining us today and hope you feel 100% soon!

Thanks guys, I am feeling better, but not 100%, that's for certain. Gens, what is MTSU time? Alicia, I totally understood what you meant regarding yelling out of laziness...I loved your post...it made me think. Alicia Snowflake, the grocery store? We're definitely eating out of the pantry today...I'm spent.
