18-20...seriously...

I have at least 18-20 mosquito bites (I keep losing count) as my reward for all the yardwork I did over the weekend! And, it appears, that I now have an allergic reaction to mosquito bites. The 18-20 bites are swollen and range in size from a quarter to a half-dollar. They itch like the dickens and I've been dabbing After Bite and downing Benadryl to try to minimize the discomfort. (Translation: I kept falling asleep yesterday...now I'm due to take more, but I want to be awake to blog, so I'm holding off and trying to ignore my itchy body!)

Since I wasn't outside working at dawn and I wasn't outside working at dusk, it is now obvious to me that the saying that mosquitoes bite at dawn and dusk is a BIG FAT LIE! We have no standing water in our yard, but obviously someone in the neighborhood does...it is not just me who has been attacked, but all of us are suffering. (I'm just the lucky one who seems to be reacting to the bites.)

When I got out of the shower this morning, I sprayed bug repellant all over. I am so done with this! Ah, I love the smell of DEET as it mixes with my perfume...

I see this comercial every once in a while, about some thing that you stick in your pocket, or on the table (kind of like a beeper or something???) and it is supposed to repel bugs. I think it's made by the people that make "Off!" or whatever it's called. I have to say, that is the only thing I don't miss about WA. The bug bites. Bugs love my skin. Even here in Vegas, if we are sitting out in the back yard at my in-law's house after dinner, I am the only one that gets bitten--usually in the 5-10x range. I guess we are just so sweet that it seeps through our skin! (eew that sounds gross--not like what I intended lol).

Hope your reaction goes away soon and that you either a) don't get bitten anymore, or b) get used to it, so that you don't react as badly!
(man I feel for you!) Feel better soon! Enjoy the naps! lol

I hate mosquitoes almost as much as I hate poison ivy. They are definitely worse at dusk and dawn but not limited to it for sure. I am a huge mosquito magnet so I completely, literally feel your pain, I have quite a few of them myself. I too am very allergic and get actual welts when bitten by one. I hope this passes quickly for you . I am so sorry.

The word for this Spring and Summer is ITCHY!!

Paint them with clear nailpolish. It will stop the itching and they will go away.

Thanks for the prayers. I so need them tomorrow.

Thanks, you guys! I feel like such a baby, but these things are driving me crazy!

Seriously, Gens? I'll do it and let you know...it can't be worse than it is right now.

Melissa, that thing you saw on television was in the drugstore...$6.99 for 6 hours of effectiveness. For that price, I can get a can and a half and spray it myself!

LA - I can't believe you shared your word with me!

...and the next time you go out, use Avon's Skin So Soft lotion. It's a natural repellent. Swear!
PS - Miss you like a fat kid misses chocolate!

OK - now that I re-read that post, what I was really trying to say is:

PS - Miss you like a fat kid ON A DIET misses chocolate!
