What cats do in winter...

Bring the birdwatching indoors!

Our cat used to do that too and the birds would tattle. He got popped on the nose the day they came home, and he never bothered them again. But man did he work his way through the gerbils. I finally put a ban on new gerbils until he died. I just felt cruel.

Our other cat accidentally pushed them over one day by putting her paws on the sewing machine they were sitting on. Scared her half to death. From then on, her bird watching was from across the room.

It's funny in spring to hear my birds talk to the outside birds as they come back to nest. We live on one acre with 22 trees, so we have lots of bird friends. We feed them and have a bath (plus pool) so they come back year after year. The finches are already back building nests in my hanging flower planters. They love the planters and we love the birds, so the flowers are really just for the neighbors. LOL

Apparently your cat loves birds too, which cat is this one?

Does your cat ever sit on top of the bird cage? I had a cat that used to do that to my parakeets when I was a kid.

Jayne, yes, the cats have tried to sit on the cage...that is why it is on a table...it used to be a hanging cage and they pulled it down. The easiest way to train the cats to stay off the cage is to surround the cage with mousetraps (the 99 cent kind)...the cats are too fast to get caught, but the snapping really dissuades them--it takes about a week of having them set, then a few more weeks of just having them laying there with the occasional one set, then you're done. (It works for hamster cages, too!) I have to admit, however, that boredom has set in and we had to set the mousetraps up last night...I don't think Tuck was going to be a good boy during the night
